Just HOW do you find anything in this
manual? I tried looking for info on the ig-
nition switch,& ended up going thru the whole manual,as it had no index,or easy way
to find what I'm looking for.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I too find the way the book is laid out illogical (as spock would say).

You would think it would be laid out as to sections or subassemlies. No suck luck. A little past the middle of the book is the known wiring diagrams. Best I can do for ya.

Same problem here. Just plan on doing the finding and reading the night before you want to do the work.

I believe the basic problem is the contents weren't originally intended to become a book. Having worked at Peterbilt back in the 70's with similar documents, it's my belief the "Assembly Manual" is simply a compilation of individual assembly drawings. These were originally developed to establish best assembly practices or sequence instructions for each entry.

Don't know about GM, but at Peterbilt there was no "book". If you needed something on one of the pages you went to Document Control and had them run a copy. I suppose we should just be thankful the source documents were retained and assembled into a single volume instead of being discarded.

This is what I did.
The very first page of mine has "1953 thru 1959 Vehicle Serial Number Identification" (don't understand that in a 60 to 66 manual but anyway). I numbered that one as page 1. Then I went and numbered every page in the book. The last page I have is 528 (bear in mind it is blank). The last page with data on it is 523 in mine.
Then I created an Excel file in which I tried to identify what was on each page.
Now when I want to reference the manual I start there. Doesn't always work but it makes for a good start.
Of course I have a 64 so I don't have everything listed prior to page 350.
If it helps this is what I have found:
1960 starts on page 15
1961 starts on page 203
1962 starts on page 235
1963 starts on page 305
1964 starts on page 350
1965 starts on page 408
1960 starts on page 454
Keep in mind that so much is interchangeable on these trucks that you may find what you are looking for in another section.

As stated in previous posts, I don't think there ever was a formal "ASSEMBLY MANUAL" per say, it's an assembly of pages of building and assembly instructions, that's all. I'm glad to have one, it's a great idea HOWEVER; you will not find one that is complete (at least not in my experience) holding all instructions. GM publishes different repair instruction in different books, not everything is in the general repair manual, there are transmission manuals, electrical and frame manuals and so forth.
When lacking factory instructions I have found it best to post my questions here or other forums, or look at a good installation on another vehicle....

As I understand it, the 'factory assembly manual' for the 60-66 trucks... was initially put together by an aftermarket supplier.

So, there is no index and it makes no sense.

I use post it notes to mark things.

I have the same problem, thought i got a bad manual or something, glad I have it though. Once you find what you're looking for it makes things easier.
