This auction was just put out by the auctioneer. She knows me and always send me flyers to put up at work.
This will be a very interesting auction because the truck is listed as a 1950, but the picture shows a much latter model truck.
Can anyone tell me about what year the truck is from the picture?
I'm sure it will not come with a title and I may be able to get it for just over scrap prices.
It about 23 miles from the house and I have the means to get it home.

The best thing about this auction, is that Vicki my wife showed the sale bill to me with the fire truck underlined.
Can you have too many fire Trucks?

Please give me some input and advice!!

RATS,
The link does not work.
You will have to copy and paste to see the sale bill and Fire Truck.
A lot of other interesting trucks at this auction also.
It will be on the second day of deer season and this auction has not been avertised hardly at all. let me know if you will be there and I will not bid against you.

One Pic shows what looks to be two V-six's back to back to make a V-12.
Could it have came out of the moter home?

I hope to preview this auction next week end, and I will be there for the auction!!

The Bus is what they call a "Fishbowl" or a "New Look". I'm not good with years on them, but I would guess mid '60's to mid 70's. I believe they were first out in '66. The engine in it should be a bus type 6-71 Detroit. I doubt very much if they ever put a V-12 in one. I really don't think it would even fit right in there.

Edit: If those Tail Lights are original on that bus, I would say that it is a little newer.

I'm not good with years on Tilt Cabs either, but by some tell-tale details, I would say that Fire Truck is '60 or '61.

no, that V12 would be the 'twin six' which was GMC's big truck engine .... I'd shy away from the converted GMC bus, it's a transit model [city rig] refered to as the New Look or Fishbowl [60's to early 80's], probably with a 6V71 diesel, and they don't make very good highway travlers - some one put some effort into it tho', so if it's cheap enough it might do, at least for a guest house out behind the garage wink

Those 72" Steel Tilt Cabs were built from 1960 to 1981 and were used by GMC and Chevrolet.

To view photos, open the auction site, then in the Auction Info section click on the "view photo gallery" link in the left corner of that section...the GMC Tilt Cab Fire Engine is three quarters down the page.

Anybody have even a wild guess on what the Fire truck would weigh?
That would give me a better idea of who I'm bidding against, a scrapper or a collector. I'll do my best to out bid a scrapper to a certain point.

I tried to pull the sale bill up today and it did not work, now it does?

My guess is between 13,000 and 14,000 pounds...my 1957 Fire engine weighs 14,200 empty, but it has two pumps (volume pump and high pressure pump). Haven't had my 1970 Tilt Cab Fire Engine (looks just like that one) across the scales yet.

Before you buy it look for rust...the tilt cabs love to rust across the back of the cab and in the door steep/wheel wells...

Scrap steel is bringing about $8.00 per 100# here, so if it weighs about 14K# it's worth $1,100.00 scrap.

Good luck!

Thanks Mike
That info helps alot on the decission to bid.
It may not weigh as much as I thought.
A friend of mine is real interested in the twin six, we will save
as much from the scrappers as we can.
