Zac Ward’s 1964 K10 4x4 Chevy Fleetside Truck.

This was a father-son project. We bought the stripped cab, front clip, and frame from fellow “bolter” Jon Christensen “JC”. This was a frame off restoration that Zac completed in high school. The suspension was rebuilt from the shackles to the leaf springs. We upgraded to ’86 front and rear differentials in a 3:08 ratio. This provided front disk brakes, torsion bar, power steering and highway cruising gears. A summit master cylinder and booster helps power the disk brakes. We fabricated mounts and hoses to add solid powder steering. for a The original 4-speed transmission and transfer case were rebuilt. The engine is a strong 4-bolt-main 350 with mild cam, HEI distributer, Edelbrock performer intake, 600 CFM carb, and headers flowing through Dynomax turbo mufflers.

Every inch of the body was worked over with straightened best we could (a great way to master MIG and Bondo) with a Maaco paint job. The wheels are early ‘60s rally sports painted the same color as the truck. The bed and fender tubs were made out of out of diamond plate. The sliding back glass, seat and a factory air handling unit found in salvaged yards. It’s a good first build. The truck is a blast to drive as it runs straight and comfortable at 70 mph/2100 rpm.

This is going to be an ongoing build. The next project will be to replace the original 4-speed grinder with a ‘90s 5-speed overdrive transmission. Drop the gear ration to 3:40 and stroke the bottom end to a 383. Then add another gas tank.

Thanks! I'm on my 4th 60-66 K-Project now. Maybe the latest one will get completed by me this time.
