Hey all.
Ok here's the story.. My truck is a 66 with a straight 6, 3 on the tree. It had been sitting in a cornfield for many (like 10 yrs) and hadn't run since then. It's been in the family since new and I got it for a hefty price of $1.00 smile.
I trailered it home from Oklahoma to Indianapolis and began tinkering on it. Since I've had it I've rebuilt the carb, replaced the starter, plugs, wires, fuel lines, flushed the tank, new clutch kit, tires, choke cable. Oh and all new fluids in the motor too. I think that's about all I can remember for now.

So I have the motor running pretty good now and went for it's first drive and everything went well. Second day (today) I drove it to work and right when I got it on the road it started bogging down horribly. I limped it home and thought maybe the fuel lines pushed a chunk and clogged something. (Oh yea, I added an inline fuel filter right before the fuel pump recently too just to be safe.)
I took apart the little filter and blew it out and got a small chunk out. Thought it was good, but got it out on the road and it did it again. It idles just fine but as soon as I put it under load (in gear) it boggs down and wants to die.
I checked the resistance on the coil and it's within specs on primary and secondary so I don't think it's that. I was wondering if the exhaust had something to do with it though. It does need replacing as I can see and hear a nice hiss right out of the manifold to downpipe connection. Anyone have any ideas what to check next? Sorry this is so lengthy but I wanted to make sure I covered all the points I could think of. I just want this old truck to run so I can enjoy it

Vacuum Advance? pull the Distributor cap and suck on the line and look for movement. Or check your carburetor to see if your vacuum port actually has vacuum.

Check for a fuel filter in the inlet of the carb alot of carbs had them ,also I would change the inline filter it's not a good idea to blow out an inline filter than reuse it. I would bet it's a fuel problem.

Thanks for the quick replies boys. The filter in front of the carb has not been changed yet. I did take it off and blow thru it and seemed fine. I'm sure it's time for a new one. It's dark now so I'll take it for a ride in the morning and see if it's any better and get back to you. I'm agree with you guys though and think it's a fuel delivery problem

Well I took off the filter right before the carb and blew it out and it ran great, no hesitation or bogging down. Headed to the parts store to pick up a new one now. Gotta love the easy fixes. Now on to the long list of to do's for the rest of the truck.

Ok so the filters seemed to be the problem. Now on to another one...
Found out that the altenator was toast so have another one on order, will be in tomorrow.
The questions I have for today are does anyone have a picture of a stock dash? There is a small light above and below the temp guage and one above and below the fuel gauge. Both of mine are missing the lens covers and I don't know what they indicate.
Also found the fuel gauge doesn't work and the reason is the flat wire strip is broken inside the tank, coming off the fuel sender. Looks like I'm on the hunt for one of those too now.

Has anyone had trouble with their reverse lights? Mine aren't working. Traced the wire back to the switch on the column and it seems ok. Do these switches go bad easily?
