Does anybody know why Chevy used the earlier 913 heads occasionally on the 58-62 235 blocks for passenger cars?

I have a Feb'1958 cast of that head on a 1962 block and am about to put an 848 on instead.

Just curious to find out why some cars had the lower compression head.

Are you sure it wasn't a rebuilt engine? I don't think the factory would have much more than 6 months disconnect on casting dates between head and block.

I found two websites with accurate head and block casting numbers, both showing the earlier 913 head was used again on passanger cars from 58-82.
My head's casting date does confirm that.

I was just wondering if there is an obvious technical/mechanical reason for offering a lower compression car engine.
Never made sense to me.

It looks like the
848 and 913 was first used in 1953,
Passenger, P.G., Hyd. cam.

In 1954, the 913 or 848 was then used on Passenger, Hyd. or Mec., up through 1962.

Trucks also used the 913 starting in 1954.
In 1955 - 62 trucks used the 913 or 848.
