Trying to figure out if my truck was/is a dually?

I have a 1957 Chevrolet 3/4 ton and the rear end has the h052 4.56 locker and 13 leaf springs on each side. 8 big ones and and 5 additional smaller ones on top stacked together.

I am trying to figure out if it is or was a dually and where I can find split dually rims and what size 17.5 or 19.5 my truck GVW is 6900 also that's the strongest for the 3604 series.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Dune! Nice to talk to you and thanks for your response. Is your truck a step side pick up or a stake bed? I don't think my fenders are big enough to fit dually tires and rims under in? From the specs in the 1957 Owners manual at oldcarmanualproject.com they specify two different wheel sizes for the 3600 - 19.5 and 17.5? I don't have either on mine currently, I have 16.5 on it all the way around. If mine and yours are the same then where can I get a set of those split rims and what size tires are they? Thanks for all your help!
Dan

If your truck is a 3604, it would not have been a duallie from the factory. The dual wheel option on 3/4 ton was only available on Stake, Platform, Chassis-Cab, and Flat Face/Cowl and Windsheild trucks.
Your truck would have had 8-19.5 6 ply. The 16.5 wheels probably came from a late '60s-early '80s truck.

That was my first thought, too, Longbox. But weren't there some AD 3/4s that came with a box and duals? Didn't think that happened with TF trucks, though.

Starting in '56, you can get 6900 GVWR with either 17.5" DRW or 19.5" SRW. This was also the start of tubeless tires on one piece wheels. I believe 4.56 was the only choice on 3600s in both '56 and '57.

Edit: Just saw your "short box" signature, Dan. There's only one box available on a 3600, and it is the same as a 1/2 ton long box. FYI.

Thanks for the info longbox and cfesting! When we purchased our 57 3604 a couple of months ago he threw in four 17.5 rims, they have the clips on them for the hubcaps! I just need to find the hub caps for these and wow that would be great! Did these trucks from factory have large white wall tires also?

Thanks for the info - it has been tough finding info!

Not that I'm aware of. I do know that there was a dual wheel/pickup box version of the 1.5 ton in the mid-late '30s, though. I did also see a 1.5 ton AD over at the Hoosier Swap Meet that had a pickup box on it, looked factory, but it had singles on the rear. Camera was dead, so I didn't get a shot of it.

Just as a guess, I'd say most would not, especially anything other than a Cameo or maybe a 1/2 ton. Most of these trucks were made with just the basics for doing work. Turn signals and two brake lights were "options".
