looking for some help,a starting place, i have a 67 c-10 250 six,with 3.73 gears i drive everyday and am thinking of a trans swap for better mileage, am i crazy. is it worth it and what would be a realistic donor for a trans? any help would be great,trying

the transmission has almost nothing to do with mileage unless you do mostly highway driving, in which case an overdrive trans might improve it enough that you'd recover the cost of the swap eventually, if you own the truck long enough

The T-5 trans. from a S-10 pickup makes a great swap for that truck. They are plentiful & reasonably priced. They are easy to swap in & would be just right with your rear end ratio.

I've said this before, but I think that the T-5/250 combination is about perfect. You'll have another gear for around town and the OD 5th for the highway. Your 3.73 should be great!

Try to find a good '87 back transmission because they have the mechanical speedo cable fitting and will not need an expensive adapter to work with your truck. The best T-5s for your truck are found in S-10s as Wrenchbender Ret. says.
