Hi,
I'm in the middle of carb rebuild, and using the online Rochester B manual as a guide. Check out the page that shows a pump screen and retaining clip being installed:

My carb does not seem to have this feature. It is off a 216 from a '51 3600. I note that my carb actually is the odd Rochester "C" that was discussed elsewhere on Stovebolt. Is it possible this feature was left off?

I,ve been in a lot of them & have never seen that in there.

Rochester built 137 DIFFERENT B series carburetors. Some have the screen, some do not. The online manual is a GENERIC manual; and is not correct for MOST series B carbs. It is an excellent guide, but one needs the parts specification bulletin for each carburetor BY TAG NUMBER to be sure of anything.

Denny - Rochester produced a "Master Parts and Specifications" book, which contained loose-leaf pages. Each page would cover from 1 to maybe a maximum of 6 carburetors. Also, the Chevrolet Master Parts book, although much more difficult to read, has the same information.

Update --- sorry guys for my goof up. It was buried under goop and rust. It's there, carb was cleaned, rebuilt, and installed this morning and it works, except for some leaking at the gasket between the choke body and the main bowl. Cleaned fuel pump, tested it with line from can and it seems to work too --- except it needs a new gasket. That much closer to road trip to tierra del fuego! Still want to hear the engine run steady for five, ten, fifteen minutes. Tomorrow I get gaskets...

I'm assuming that the Rochester "Master Parts and Specifications" book, is not available except to a few paper collectors, has anyone scanned it in and made it available to the rest of us??

I read a lot about the "Chevrolet Master Parts" book, is this available? I was a parts man with Chevrolet in the early 60's and our parts book at the time was about 10" thick, and Chevrolet only produced parts ten years prior to the current model year. We were adding revisions nearly every week to the parts book also. So I’m assuming that this “Chevrolet Master Parts” book is an truncated version of the actual parts book, what years and models does it cover?

Denny - Chevrolet has been producing Master Parts books since 1912. What you would need is one printed about 3 to 5 years after your vehicle.

Both the Rochester book and the Chevrolet books are readily available from the large literature dealers - not inexpensive.

As far as scanning the books, both were copyrighted, thus scanning and reproducing (within 75 years of the print date) violates federal law (unless one is willing to pay the GM licensing fee). There are probably some versions of the Chevrolet parts book which have been licensed, and reproduced for sale.
