I purchased a replacement gas tank for my 1957 Chevy pickup a few years ago. Now, when I try to install it, the original mounting straps appear too small (no long enough) and the alignment with the filler tube is a little awkward. Otherwise it appears like it should fit. I'm wondering if I purchased a 1955 series 1 tank by mistake. Is there any way to identify which is which?

49-55.1 tank and 55.2-59 tank ... difference appears to be only on the angle and shape of the filler ohwell

Thanks Bill, appreciate the photos. It seems I have the right one. Now to figure out why the straps appear to be short.

the straps are very tight, only accept very thin tarpaperlike shimming - also I seem to recall the flanges where the straps cross are flattened, maybe not enough on the repro? and maybe it isn't seating well on the floor parts

Thanks for the tips, I tried everything (not a lot of options). Still doesn't fit right. I'm wondering if the problem stems from "bending" the straps to get the old tank out possibly deformed them, and in combination with the repro tank potentially not being "right-on." I'm going to order a new set, if they still don't fit, I'll weld in a little extension strapping. Again thanks.
