I know GM never made any but has anybody seen one? I'm thinking about getting my dad to make one and I think it would be cool to have the only one of its kind. I have a mechanically restored 53 3100 to start with. well what do you guys think?

Truck based woodies were made by Campbell Midstates and other body builders back in day. I've seen and archived a lot of these pics, but lost a bunch of them a few weeks ago when the old CPU died. You'll find some if you go to the Woodie Club web site. There's a whole section there for truck based woodies. Stu

Hello Woody lovers!
Are there any blueprints out there for these bodies? Or has anyone done this and do you have pictures?
I would love to try building one... maybe on an old '40s Caddy.

I had been thinking about doing a "tin woodie" on my Suburban for quite some time. I was going to use DiNoc as the base and then overlay that with some ash or some other wood strips. Wood grain the dash and use wood for interior panels. Maybe even go so far as to make a woodie type interior roof and overlay the outer roof with the material they use on woodie roofs. The clamshell tailgate would have to be killer with some special treatment there. Perhaps some panels welded into it so that it would have 3 recesses and the proper graining. I can see it all in my mind......but it would cost some money and it just wouldn't be right for me if it didn't have 4 doors. the engineering to get the 4 doors is really what screws the pooch for me. Too much work and money to get it right. Move gas tank fill, major reconstruction of support areas, glass reconfiguration, hinges, latches, interior work, on and on and $$$. So it will remain a dream for the time being. But it could work. I'd love for someone to be able to put in photoshop for me.

Overlay this onto a 'burb in you mind's eye and see what you think.
tin woodie wagon.
Or this
I would bring the "wood" all the way back down to the running bords in front of the rear fender like a true woodie, and then run it to the rear of the front fenders.

Today, the wife and I went to Wavecrest, which is an all Woody Show at Encinitas CA, which is just up the road from San Diego. It's called the largest Woody Show in the world, and gets about 250 -300 vehicles. There was a 1912 Mercedes wood body that was just drop dead gorgeous, but most are traditional vehicles. There were some late 40's vintage Chevy Delux Woody's that seemed light enough to be on a station wagon chassis. But the Fleetmaster vehicles, seem to be to heavy for a car chassis. I asked someone there about theirs, and they classify it as a station wagon. Are these considered trucks?

Even though 85 percent of what is there are Ford and Mercury, the Chevy's, Town and Country's, and Pontiac's seemed to look the best to me.

There was I believe a 48 International 4 wheel Drive "Suburban" to use the term, that was a Woody. What a hunk of machinery, they supposedly had made 3, and this one come from the midwest somewhere. Locally there is a 40 something Power Wagon Woody that is a piece of Fire Machinery. Definately a cool set of wheels.

1949 Chevrolet suburban woody

eBay listing

posting eBay link_s is not a good thing - the link "dies" soon after the auction ends. Here is a photo of the eBay Woody. 6 days left; $20K bid that has not met the reserve. The restoration of the Woody is not completed. The seller does not know if it is a Cantrell or a Campbell. tcl
