I am swapping my three speed column shift for a 350 automatic on a long bed 66 c10. Does anyone know where I can find a driveshaft to fit this setup. Do I just need a driveshaft out of an automatic long bed or am I going to have to get mine customized | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,838 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,838 | Once the transmission is installed, find a slip yoke that will slide into the back of the transmission, bottom it out, then pull it out an inch or so from that point. With the weight of the vehicle on the wheels (or supported by jack stands under the axle housing) measure the distance from the center of the rear axle yoke U-joint eye to the center of the slip yoke eye. Go to a salvage yard with that measurement and find a shaft that will accept the proper diameter U-joint crosses. If you're working with a short-shaft trans, it might be necessary to go to a 2-piece driveshaft. Jerry

So I need a driveshaft that is around 72 or 73 inches would a driveshaft from a 66 with a powerglide work the driveshaft I have in it now is a two piece | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,838 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,838 | That much extra trans length should allow you to go with a 1-piece shaft, but finding one the right length from a year model and trans type reccomendation is like finding a chicken with lips. Get out the tape measure and find something that can be cobbled together, or take the dimensions to a driveline shop and get a custom shaft made. It's really not that expensive. A Powerglide shaft probably won't have the right slip yoke spline and/or diameter. Another option would be to have your front shaft shortened, and install the right slip yoke on it. Jerry
