The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 1966 C30 Questions

Hey everyone, I got a line on a 1966 C30 dually. It is sight unseen, but I've been told has salvagable parts. For this discussion, lets assume it's all original... untill I find out different.

Does anyone know what rear end it has in it? Is it the round banjo style with removable 3'rd member (Eaton rear end) or is it the GM corporate 14 bolt axle?

It's got a 4 speed. Is this the SM420 or the SM465?

I don't know about the engine, could be 250, 292, 283, or 327.

for tranny it would be the SM420 your right about the engine choices as for the rear end i think chevy quit using the eaton rear end in like 63 but i took a tranny out of a 67 3/4ton chevy and it had the bolt out 3rd member but if its your average old 1 ton farm truck my money goes with it has the 292

It would have the eaton diff. They were used to '72, with GMC and some Chevies (Camper Specials) using the Spicer/Dana 70.
