Well you learn something new every day. I've been thinking that somebody removed the old fuel tank on my truck since it was nowhere to be seen. Then I was cleaning up the cab area to see what shape everything's in, and pulled what was left of the seats out. Holy crap! There was my fuel tank!! Hmmm...good thing I don't smoke! Ha! Hey...I'm learning something about these old trucks every day! Fun!

I remember those. When I was a kid working at gas stations you had to make the people get out of the truck before you could put the gas in.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

That's interesting my 36 had the tank under the seat but the filler neck came out the side so that you didn't need to lift the seat.. Does your truck have the split bench?

Thanks for the feedback on all my questions! I can see I'll be in good hands here when I need info. As for fuel tank filler tube, mine doesn't have one. I went to Google Images, and saw one like yours with the filler tube. I can see the cutout area on the sheet metal where they put them though. Guess some had it and some didn't?!

Well, Your high cab looks to not have the original tank. around mid 36 the side of the fuel tank had a filler neck. and the 34/35 trucks had a cap like what you have in the picture but, more in the center. and the tank is a littl diffrent in design where the stock 36 tank looked just like the 34/35 with just the cap hole not cut. and with the filler neck on the passanger side that comes out the side.

It looks to be a replacment tank and where they installed that cap set up on the top and looks like they used tar to seal it. that is my guess as to what the black stuff is.

Hmmm...I thought it was a low cab. I have hydraulic brakes, and the cab looks different than other '36's I've seen pics of. Let me attach a link to a shot of the truck. Maybe you guys can tell by the pics if she's a low or high cab. Thanks!!

that may explaine the gas tank style? I have not seen a low cab tank. but, I would think it should be with a filler neck on the side. Someone here should have a 36 and up low cab.

I can also, sug. that you go to the picture area and email some of the owners. someone will give the info you are looking for.

I have a low cab and my filler neck came out the side of the seat riser by the passenger door... The door panel has a recess for the neck...

But now that I'm looking through some of my old pictures... My donor cab... Also a 36 had no cut out in the seat riser... So maybe it depended on what factory produced the cab

Hmmm, I'll have to go and check my passenger door and see if it has a recessed area too. It would be nice to have a filler tube but no big deal if not.

Ok, my door panel does have a recessed area for a filler tube. The more I think about it, the handier a fuel filler tube sounds. I may go that route when the time comes. Thanks for all the helpful info!!

Maybe CORPO can take a picture of his gas tank so, that you can find one on ebay?

Ill see if I have a pic around somewhere... i know the tank is burred in my attic, I dont plan on using it, it looked like it was repaired a dozen or so times.. I only kept it for the filler neck, figured i would make a tank.. when i get to that point..
