on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 841 | sorry if this is the wrong location to ask this question, feel free to move it if need be. i just bought a used plastic boat fuel tank to run my 292. if has a 1/4" fuel line which i assume is too small. i was planning on drilling down the center of female fitting on tank and brazing on a piece of copper tubing (to be used as gas pick up) into the new 5/16" barb fitting. someone please stop me if the 1/4" will work. my main question is there is some white slime, like water contamination, inside the tank. can this just be rinced out with clean gas or something else? this setup is temp but might be used for a couple of years who knows. thanks | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy hoggyrubber, the 1/4" line should provide plenty of fuel, unless you're going to do full power pulls on an engine dyno. It should be just fine for breakin purposes or moving the truck around. As to the "white slime", I have no clue, but I do know that I don't want any of that inside my fuel system. You can try flushing the tank with various solvents, or you could just throw it away and start with something clean, good luck. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,838 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,838 | The 1/4" pickup tube should supply all the gas you need unless you plan to do extended full-throttle operation. I'd fill the tank 2/3 full with very hot water, and add 2 or 3 tablespoons of dishwashing detergent, then strap the tank down in a pickup bed and go for a drive. The sloshing action of the water and the detergent should do a good job of cleaning the crud out of the tank. Rinse several times with very hot water. A good dose of denatured alcohol will absorb any leftover water during the final rinse. Have fun! Jerry
