Black seems to be the choice of colors on the fenders but I am not sure they all came that way. White wall tires were not made from late 41 till Feb 47 but I think white wall tires dress up a vehicle well worth the cost. Jim Carter catalog gives a lot of good information and I would suggest you get owners manual.

Much cheaper to repaint than the real deal if I don't like how it looks.
I'm aware of the original colors available, but I'm not going for a perfect/ accurate restoration - more like "original inspired". I want it to look original and correct to the average observer, customized to the look I want, and only gearheads (stovebolt heads?) will know it's not original.

I haven't painted the fenders yet and have went thru a bevy of color ideas ranging from maroon to purple and everything inbetween. I'm leaning towards black fenders and lime green stripes. I'm at work now and can't post pictures but here is an older post that you may link to. Planning on some form of cream or natural leather for the seats and upholstery. I had wanted a dark exterior color but the painting budget just wouldn't allow the quality of body work needed. And yes, keeping it cooler and "cleaner" (better to hide road grime) were considerations as well.
Chev4t6 - Looked at your album - wow - quite a restoration you're doing, mine is nowhere near that level, just doing a cab-on. With that much effort put into it, I'm sure you're agonizing way more than me on making the right color choice. I too thought about maroon fenders but when I had my son photo shop one like that it just didn't look right. I'm putting my logo on the doors which has maroon and that's why I need the maroon stripe and wheels, but the fenders need something just slightly different to show off the curves and give it that vintage look. I had seen a '38 with gray fenders and light gray cab and bed - probably not original but looked soooo vintage and that's what I'm after.

It should be the lighter color. The model would have required taping off and painting an item twice - I was too lazy for this effort. Czechman, thank you for charitably referring to re-doing the photoshop - again, too lazy - that is simply the model sitting on a box top in front of my computer screen with an Art Deco building picture in full view mode.
