Can someone tell me my options for buying the right wheels for my 51. I*'d like to buy used somewhere but uncertain of just what years to get. Right now it came with jeep 6 bolt wheels. I'd like to put the simple moons or bowls as some call them. Thanks for any input guys.

Just about any 6 lug wheel GM ever made should fit your truck. I've always liked Rally's!

Hi Bruce,

Here is information from the on line restoration pack. Are you interested in original style wheels and covers? http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/chevyresto/51150.htm

Just be aware that the stock looking wheel covers (dog dish) do not fit every wheel that will fit your truck. They do make clips to replace the ones found on some stock wheels but these clips do not always work for every wheel or could require some serious figuring to locate them properly.

Don't ask me how I know this.

Here is a pic of my truck with junkyard wheels the previous owner put on it.
1950 junkyard wheels pic
If you look closely the front wheels are different than the rears. Hubcaps would of only work on the rears.

I don’t know what they came off of but this goes to Woody’s point

Also they didn’t work with disc brake upgrade.

Thanks guys, I better buy my dog dishes first before I start locating wheels to make sure they fit!

The stock wheels on a 1951 were 16" (actual 17 1/2" OD) with 6 lugs and 6 hubcap clips. The wheels measure 5" wide outside edge to outside edge and 4" wide tire bead to tire bead. Pay attention to rust that may have seriously eroded the inside rivet heads and lug nut holes so badly worn the lug nuts almost go though them. Take a tape measure and a lug nut with you when you shop for rims. Think about the bead width of the tires you want to use with the 4" bead width rims.
