The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 58-59 Stepside Fleetside Frame Differences

Searched for a long time with no avail so I figured I'd break down and finally ask ha. I was curious to know if there were any differences between the 3100 stepdside and 3100 fleetside frames in the 55-59 era. Ive got a 58 fleetside 3100 frame right now that isn't in too bad of shape but Ive got a chance to get a 59 3100 stepside that has been reworked and painted chassis black. Ive got an underbed frame rail mount gas tank that was made for a fleetside so I didnt want to be stuck with a stepside frame that my tank would not mount to. Any help would be great or maybe a link to something would be even better!!Thanks ahead of time!!

the frames are the same, the cross sills that sit on top are different ... the assembly manual is a good reference for details like that

yes, that's the one, but you can get them from a Stovebolt sponser for 22 bucks, or any vendor for 25-35 they have all the frame dimensions and show assembly of everything, but because the book is actually from the beginning of the series [55] they don't actually show the fleet bed - well worth having if you're doing real work on the truck
