In a recent post I described a problem I am having with the carb. on my 48 Loadmaster. I put a kit in it and it still wont run without the choke about half the way out. I double checked for vac. leaks and have none.When you drive it on the open road it acts like it is starving for gas.It is a Rochester mod. B Any ideas.

Have you had a vacuum gauge on it while driving. Sometimes leaks are not that obvious. If you have PVC, the valve could be stuck open, a 2 speed can cause a big vacuum leak or even a wiper motor.

Check around the throttle shaft. It's a hard one to see, but if you spray a little carb cleaner right where the shaft exits the carb body on either side, the pitch of the motor might change. If it does, you've got a leak.

I have the same problem and one of these days I'm going to get it drilled out and put a bushing in. It runs fine above idle, though, so yours may be a different problem.

Sounds like you are running lean. Pull the top off the carb & see what size main jet is in it. If it's a 216 you want about 53-55. If it is a 235 56-58. Check the float level. If it is correct you may want to raise it up 1-2/32's. Make sure the power valve piston works free & goes in the hole & knocks the ball off it's seat. You might advance the timing a little.
