I would really like to run the original look tires on my stock resto 57 Chevy truck. I have the 2 piece rims. Any suggestions on what tires I could run? Any with a small white wall strip?

Thanks!

Jon

Was there a white-walled tire factory option for trucks in 1957?

Hi Drew,
This is the info from Coker.
215/75R15 size, BF Goodrich tire with a 2.5” whitewall, priced at $219 each, or $1,065 for five. That is over my budget for tires at this time. Plus the tires do not look "old."

Tim,
I thought maybe the white wall was an option back then...But then I think, why would a farm truck have a whitewall? I would think it would be avail. on the Cameo models.

I doubt whitewalls would have been a factory option for any truck, but a dealer would do whatever was requested .... OTOH, I believe 57 was the first year the narrow ww's were made, and available on Caddies and such, so that wouldn't be too 'original' for a bottom of the line truck

I have Yokohama 700R15LT's on the 58, a little harsh riding cuz 10ply, but they have the taller, narrower original look and don't show the bulgey sidewalls of car size radials

nother thought - tire rubber is actually white, covered with a coating of blackened rubber [to avoid ugly scuff marks] - there's a place in Sacto that will "buff off" the black rubber to create the ww, tho' I think only on tires that have the raised white lettering

Jon, I'd have to say the size that Coker quoted you is incorrect if you are interested in "original" size. The size they quoted you is a metric radial which as we all know hadn't even been developed in 1957. According to my 1957 Dealer Data Book wink the following 15 inch size was available for all 3100 series trucks: 6.70x15 in either 4 or 6 ply rating. A 6.50x16 and a 7.00x17.5 were also available. The 6.70x15 was indeed offered in a whitewall. The only model in the book displaying the whitewalls is the Cameo and they appear to my best guess to be about 2 to 2 1/2 inches wide. Coker has these sizes I'm pretty sure so you may want to contact them again with this info.

The tires on my truck are 7 x 15, "skinny blacks." You can see them in the gallery, for what it's worth.
