Trying to finish up install on new motor--Plug broke on the alternator and previous owner had a wiring harness. Blue wire shows #24, Black wire shows #42--hoping not to do a smoke test on it. Can anyone offer help on wiring to the alternator? Thanks, T.K.

It would help to know which alternator you're running. If it's the 10 SI modsel with the internal voltage regulator, all you need to do is connect the big alternator output terminal with the threaded connector directly to a battery voltage source like the top terminal of the starter solenoid or the + terminal of the battery with a #10 or larger wire, and connect a jumper wire to the #2 terminal on the plug slot from the alternator output terminal. The other connection can be left loose unless you're running a "no charge" warning light on the dash. If you are running an ammeter inside the cab, the charging wire from the alternator needs to go to the ammeter terminal opposite the one that connects the ammeter to the battery cable terminal on thre starter.

I converted my 52 AD from generator to alternator. Mine was one wire DA plug, http://picasaweb.google.com/ganeshgavara/PicsofWiring#5496424190341228018

Pay attention to yellow wire and red wire. The Yellow wire can be wire to "S" side of selnoid. Red wire goes to the old red wire which was on the regulator. Two additional wires on the old regulator can be capped.

Start your truck check the voltage at Battery, if it is more that 12 V then it is charging and alternator is working

Hope this helps

Thanks for all of the good info--appreciate the quick responses. Hope to fire the rebuilt 261 soon if my sore back holds out. T.K.
