On the 67, assuming this is a "kit conversion" and not custom, could the linkage be moved over to let the speedometer cable hook up without snapping the cable/binding the linkage? WEbOLD gave me a shifter he had but I don't want to take this one out unless I have to. Any info/help will be greatly appreciated(the only reason we don't drive it is because of the speedometer).

I looked and it looks like the only way to move it over is to take the whole thing up and move it over enough to get the cable in. The only problem I can see is that I'll probably have to have a tab welded onto one of the braces that bolts to the transmission when I move it over. I can probably move it over almost three inches without the shifter being in my knees so it should be okay.

kinda young to be talkin to yourself already JD seems as if a 'kit' would have allowance for the speedo cable without interference - maybe it's something adapted from another model trans? I'd think if eyeballin it indicates it could move enough with some change to the mounts, go for it

Did you see the "over the edge post"? I do that stuff already. Anyway, back to the topic, this setup kind of reminds me of the automatic shifters that my neighbor uses on his demo cars but it's not exactly the same. It could have been universal. It doesn't look like it was fabricated in a local shop unless they knew what they were doing(I doubt it, I know where the po took it) so... I'll get it up to my neighbors and ask him what he thinks. Heck, if I knew where to get an adapter that would allow for a 90 degree angle right off of the tranny that the cable could connect to I'd just do that but I don't think anybody makes those.

No problem Jordan you fit in with this "ageless crowd" just fine. We loose things in plain sight, put things in the wrong place, and laugh a lot. There is nothing wrong with us.

There is a company that sells on e-bay that makes 90 degreee adapters and can calibarate the difference in tire size and all that good stuff to get your speedo right. I had a similar problem with a shifter change from the column to th floor. I got one of those and it solved the problem. Check out this link. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. This looks to be a Mr. Gasket universal shifter kit and not very much hope on moving it. It's basically stuck where it's at without doing some heating and bending or welding on extensions on the braces. Old bag o bones, the listing says that it will speed up the speedometer reading 25%. Is the adapter adjustable or????? Thanks.

If I'm thinking right I would just need a 1:1 ratio assuming that the everything(wheels, tire size) are original, right?

That company will offer a 1:1 adapter. Just ask them a question in regards to what you want for your setup and they will oblige you. I bought the 1:1 for my truck.

Avette4me, THANK YOU! You are a lifesaver. That part was going to be at least $60 bucks, which would take me 3 weeks to earn. I believe it will leave me with at least 1/8" inch between the linkage and the very edge of the adapter.
