I'm driving this old '62 dually quite a bit now and apparently I've forgotten how it was in the good old days because the lack of seat belts makes me kinda nervous. That and the fact that the stiff rear suspension bounces my skull off the roof on every little bump has me thinking about some safety upgrades. I've vaguely pondered a later model seat to replace the mice damaged stocker but that may be beyond the budget right now. So has everybody updated their truck or kept it stock, life is a little chancey anyways, right? | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 734 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 734 | I put some nice black with chrome buckles in my '65. Seems like I got 'em at JC Whitney. It's been 4-5 years so I don't remember for sure. They seem pretty good quality. They're the airplane style buckle. Don't look modern at all, goes with an old truck. I'm sure they still make 'em. | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 337 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 337 | I'm running Simpson belts I bought from Summit Racing years ago. They are the older aircraft style. The buckles are pretty clunky, but the width of the webbing makes them comfortable. The buckles can be seen draped over the center console: | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 61 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 61 | I purchased my belts from www.gotbelts.comI ordered the aircraft style and the price was the bestalso shipping $5.95 flat. The belts are from BEAM so all other retailers will give you the same or a lesser quality. It wasnt cheap but it was worth it, if you get in a wreck in the front or back the truck will be unscathed but you will eat steering wheel and your passenger will eat steel dashboard, even with 2 points.
Buy some 3 points, feel safer and be safer. I'm sure you can go to a junk yard and if you are a good enough do-it-yourselfer buy cheap 3 points from a wrecked car (proven to work haha!).
My middle passenger has a 2 point from an old Caddy, not a 3 point but better than nothing. It's alright for the middle to have 2 point rather than the right passenger, you can always put your arm across his/her chest depending on how strong you are and it will save them a head injury.
As for your statement "life is a little chancey anyways, right?", that's all fine and dandy if you are the only one affected, and it's also partially my view on life. But when it comes to other passengers, I feel responsible for them and let's face it, drum brakes ain't exactly Brembo's.
If you want to go with 2 points, as I said earlier, better than nothing. I would take my '65 without any belts rather than a Honda Civic or Toyota Camry, I don't care how good the safety rating is, cause the tests don't factor in a new Chevrolet 2500 HD Duramax turbo diesel with a 6 inch left collision, which would involve a tire in place of the head of the car driver.
Just somethin to think about.

Look at Wesco Performance they sell a good hardness for a great price. This is the direction I went for my 3 year old. It makes me feel good. I ordered standard lap belts in black but I will put in 2 "D" rings on the pass. rear floor side for the Child Seat as anchors. I got gran kiddies I want to hual around.
