I have a '49 Chevrolet Pickup. At least that is what it is titled.

Very little of the paint is left but it looks like Mist Green that is listed in some '50 GM car color samples. I have checked out the Auto Color Library and don't see anything close, Puts me in mind of a Seafoam Green.

Not sure how to post pics or I would.

Are you sure it's the original color? If you're not sure you should clean off a spot on the firewall, it's the least likely place to be repainted.

The colors for cars and trucks are not the same and truck colors are pretty distinct. Look HERE and you'll probably find your color match.

I do think it is an original color as I found a replacement grille at a swap meet that was an exact match.

I have checked out the Aoto Color Library and there doesn't seem to be a match. It is difficult to judge because of the computer but none of the colors seem to be close. I have found some '48 automobile colors that are close or maybe a match but no truck colors.

Again it looks like a sea foam green.

Not sure if it was available in '48 but Seacrest Green is a medium green and was available in '51 (my year) for sure.

But, if your color is not on that chart than it was either repainted or delivered from the factory with a custom paint color, in which case all bets are off.

I was just thinking since there were no body plates indicating color and trim on them old trucks, right?

One should be able to paint it any stock color offered that year and it would be correct, right?

How would anyone dispute it being the original color if no trace of any color can be found and you painted it with an original color?

Dan

Look behind either the cowl vent or the driver's side vent. On my 1 ton it was the one place that had nice unfaded factory paint. Also uder the window seals but if you aren't replacing the windows....
Get a photo account at Flickr.com (my preference) or pbase which woody uses and then post a link.

Seacrest Green was a (the) medium green available from 47-52 on regular-cab trucks.
