[b][/b] Well, I started work on my Gmc Coe. I have been looking at it for about two years now. so, I took off the carb. It is a little warn. I hope the machine shop can fix it. I ordered up tune up items from jim carter on Saturday. including the radiator hoses. It ran when it was parked. so, I plan on on putting in a kit in the fuel pump and new rubber lines. So, with luck I hope the truck will fire up.

I ordered a used brake booster off ebay. The one on the truck is beyond rust. I will then also, run new brake lines. I will pull the wheels for a brake inspection and at least put in wheel cyl. kits.

Keep up the good work. Those updraft carburetors show up on ebay, every now, & then. Is it the origonal Zenith Carb., or has someone installed a Carter updraft,on it.

Yes, It is the Zenith. The mach. shop has ordered an new butterfly shaft as the one one it was warn real bad. I should have it fully repaired in about two weeks. We are waiting for that shaft to get here.

Over this weekend we got the replacement power brake booster that I won off ebay. The one on the truck was a little rusty from sitting. We had to cut off the steps as someone had brazed them on at some point. The original flanges were rusty or gone. I will repair them so that the steps will bolt on.

All the tune up parts are here for the truck so, we can continue to complete the tune up. We will flush out the fuel tank this week and run new hose lines. By the end of the week we should be ready to start the truck up. But, we will be on hold till the carb. gets back.

We are in the hopes to have this truck fired up by the end of the month. We did order new Rat. hoses and will also, replace any other hoses for the cooling system. I can not wait to hear this motor purrrrrrr.

By the way the booster is the original bendix unit

I did list my 1935 Chevy Truck on ebay last week. I hope that this truck will supply the funding for this COE as well as the 51 Suburban and Gmc Suburban project that will be home soon. So, if you know anyone looking for a 1935 just let them know. It is in our for-sale section here on stovebolt. I am only looking to get back what I have paid for the parts. To many interested going on here in the Yard.....

I got the carb back and after the new shaft $35.00 and $45.00 for the rebuild kit and another $40.00 for media blasting and labor. for a total of $130.00 The carb is now done!

I think that is the most I have ever paid for a Carb rebuild but, then again. I tend not to require new shafts.

Today is Saturday and I got the new plugs in and wires. Jim Carter sent me some wrong parts such as the Dist. Cap and Rotor and the wrong Lower Rat. Hose. SO, I will call them on monday.

The orig. cap still looks ok, So for now I just cleaned it up.
I hope he has the correct parts or my local old time parts house should have it in stock. Being I had ordered other parts. I figured I would add them to the list.

So, those items did not get put in but, were in good shape anyway.

I will get the fuel pump rebuilt tonight or on Sunday. My hoses don't look bad. for the Radiator but, I will still replace them.

The starter is now in and Hooked up.

I hope that I can get the Carb put in the truck on Sunday as well.

someone had told me they were parting out a GMC Coe and Has the complete air intake for me but, I have not heard from him on the price etc. to complete the sale.

So, I picked up a mini air cleaner from the local parts house till that problem can be fixed.

I called and got a price to rebuild the brake booster for under $100.00 from one of my suppliers. It is only a one day turn around.

Again, my goal is to get this truck to the Northeast Chevy Gmc Truck Show on the 31st of this month. So, Far it is looking good as long as There is no major issues along the way..

"Complete Air Intake". Are you speaking of the oil bath air cleaner, & duct/air hose down to the carb. ?

What engine do you have in your truck?

when it was new it had the 248 but, along the way at some point. either when it was new or ???? the motor has been in the truck for some time. The truck has low millage over all. so, it is possible that it was repowered. This was a tow truck after all. It had a Holmes tow body before I got it.
So, now it has the 270 Motor

Today (Monday) there was no rain. so, I did get the fuel lines hooked up and ready. The carb is ready. I had to make up a gasket for where it mounts to the intake. but, now it is ready to install.

The weather report is basic rain, rain, and more rain for the rest of the week. so, I don't think much will get done.

well, today is wed. and I got the truck moved over to in front of my garage so that I can get under it. I have yet to fire it up. but, I need to run the fuel line to the carb. now. I noticed that the shifting linkage has a pivit mount just under the driver. It looks like it broke off. That explains why I can not shift the truck. I will take it off and see if I can repair it. Otherwise I will be looking for working one. It is a simple two bolts holding it on. I guess that it has no way to grease it and that it seized up and then broke.

I will dig out my camera and if it don't rain. I will take some snap shots and post a link. I just checked the weather and it looks like rain for at least four days. but, they tend to be wrong one way or another.

For what it's worth, I grew up operating my dad's 48 Chevrolet Cab Over Engine Wrecker.

If it's the same shift lever, it's a short lever with a ball on the bottom that fits into a socket. They would last about 2-3 years and then, one day, when you went to shift, it'd pull right out of the socket. You'd have to stop, pop the ball back in the socket and then remember to hold down when shifting it.

As I recall, it was the only Cab Over Engine part that we kept in stock.

A 270, im jealeous I have a non running 248 in my 45 truck now. It's actually a 53 0r 54 block that's in there now, probably the correct one that belongs in your truck.
This gives me an idea, has anyone tried to locate their original engine by posting the engine number on the original title of their truck to see if that original engine may still be out there somewhere?

That is a good question jeff, I tend to say that you would be lucky to just find an engine number that is correct to your month of production. It is hard to know what your orig. number would be unless someone wrote the number down. and you can only know the correct motor if you decode your vin number

As you posted, Jeff, if your title/registration used the engine number (a common but not universal practice), that is about the only way you could be certain that you have the original engine.

Well, Today is now Thursday. I have not reported much but, This week we made some good headway. I hired a guy to assist me on this truck. I have problems with my hands. and Having an extra set is nice. For this week. The carb. is in correct and tight. It was not fully seated before.
We pulled the gas tank out. it had less than half a gal. and what came out was mostly clean old gas. NO RUST! It is a good sign it was stored right.

We took the therm. out and checked it and we will put it in next week. I have the upper rat. hose but, I will try to match up the lower one. The one sent to me from the local parts house was wrong. We started to remove the Gen but, time ran out. I will send that out and get checked and rebuild if needed. or I just may upgrade to a Alt. I just may do that anyway.

We will see what next week brings. It started to rain and we were working on another project car at the same time.
