hey guys. I have done a ton of research on setting the tv cable on my 700r4 that I put in my 61. I made all my brackets to spec and tripple checked them. now, per the instructions, you push down the adjuster butten and pull the cable all the way back then take a measurement from the bracket to the end of the cable (where it clips on) when it is fully extended and add 3/16 to the number and that is where you set your bracket to wide open throttle distance. Now I have done this and when I go to adjust the cable I hit wide open throttle without adjusting the cable at all. how hard should I be pulling it to take the measurement? I don't want to over pull it. there is a couple of different spots where the tension on the cable changes. I took the measurement from where i thought it should stop but it will pull another .250 with more presure. my cable is slack for the first 1/4 of throttle so I think I didn't pull it far enough but as I said, I do not want to go to far and damage something. This is my last step before I take her out on the road !!!!thanks guys

The final adjustment is done by observing the shift points. If the cable doesn't hit an internal stop in the transmission slightly beyond the wide-open position on the throttle, you've probably made a mistake in the spacing from the carb to the cable support bracket. The main concern is to have enough throttle pressure to prevent slippage on the upshift, yet allow the trans to shift back to 1st. gear at a stop. I'd suggest running a bit more pressure than you think is necessary (cable pulled out of the trans a little too far) and drop the adjustment back toward the carb a notch at a time until it shifts right.

A good place to start is with the throttle wide open the cable should be pulled out as far as it will go. If you have done all that research you probably found that the distance of the of the connecter from the center of the shaft is important also & the arc that it goes in. 1 1/8" in is max for the connector to the shaft center. If you have slack in the cable at idle something is wrong.

my conector center should be correct. I made an adapter to mount on the lever and set up the carb on a surface plate and scribed a line at 23 deg and 1.109 from the center of the shaft. I think eather my bracket is to close or the cable is stretched.

I road tested it and its definetly not right. its shifting to fast and not downshifting in corners. I will have to make another bracket because I am maxed out on my sdjustment for this one. Im still wondering how hard it should be to pull that cable all the way out. Feels good to get her out there though.
