I'm assembling a '58 235 with solid lifters. Most of the charts give valve clearance for a HOT engine. What is the correct clearance for the initial (cold) adjustment???

Worked for me.

I don't have the specification at my finger tips, but I'm sure someone else has.

0.006" Intake
0.018" Exhaust
Harvester's cold lash "add-on" looks good. Some Shop Manuals say to "roughly set the valve clearances to make sure the valves have clearances". Some people say to set them up to 0.005" wider than the hot settings.

I just set them at .008 and .015 as I need to get them someplace close. Looks like I am now OK for initial start.
I still have quite a bit to do before I can crank it. I have not even started on sorting thru my generators and starters. I will try to get a new oil pump tomorrow, and I still have to decide what I am going to do about the water pump. The old water pump (one of them) looks good, but I will have to find a large diameter pulley that is shorter, and see if I can press the whole mess together. If not, I will order a spendy pump.
