I thought it's about time I get a picture of my 58 Apache Fleetside. Hopefully its not too ugly that it doesn't make it on the gallery! I purchased this 58 from a guy who had it parked in a potato field in Eastern Idaho. The motor was broke, rats were living in the interior, and wasps had taken over the whole truck. I paid $850 bucks for it and trailered it to my in-laws barn. I am a full time college student and trying to work on the truck and go to school is certainly a challenge. I got rid of the rats, killed the wasps, tore out the interior, and put a chevy 350 in it. I flipped the axle, put one of Sids 4" drop axles in the front. This is a rat rod, not a frame off restoration! This project will hopefully be ready in a few weeks. Oh, I put a wheel knockoff on the gas tank cap, put on 55 Olds taillights, and put in "buffalo wood" for the bed. This is to name a few of the things I have done. I love this truck and wouldn't sell it for the world.

Lookin' good Casey. Really like the Olds tail lights. 'Scuse the ignorance but what's Buffalo wood? The pics a bit fuzzy but the wood color's good.

I've definately got this truck thing in my blood ... my DNA sequence has torque settings "Of all the small nations of this earth, perhaps only the ancient Greeks surpass the Scots in their contribution to mankind" Winston Churchill.
I had no idea either until the guy at the lumber yard told me. Buffalo wood has grooves taken out of it, and have a "hand cut" style. It lookes like someone chipped away at it for a few days with a big carving knife. The guy at the lumber yard said it's real popular on houses? Can't say I have even seen it on a house before. It only cost me $30 bucks for all the lumber to do my entire bed! There are more pictures in the photobucket album of the wood if you want to see it better. I'll take better pictures in a few days.

Casey, buffalos are made of meat and bone not wood "Buffalo" is a company that makes wood siding for buildings, not a type of wood, hopefully you got the pine, not cedar
can't see yours clearly enough, but it's just "siding", maybe V joint [channel or drop sideing if the joint is a |_| shape, or maybe ship-lap, tongue and groove if it 'slots' together, etc] - if the flat surface is "marked up" it would be what's considered 'distressed' .... what counts is the actual species of wood, like pine, fir, cedar etc
if it's a tongue and groove make sure you coat every surface well before assembly or when you get it wet the swelling will mess things up big time
Sounds similar to 'sandblasted' timber. It picks out the softer grain and leaves that distressed look.

Looks great Casey, the picture quality's excellent, but the camera man needs a bit of practice! Mind you,it does sound a bit windy!
It's so good when you drive your project for the first time. I've still got that to look forward to.
