| | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 126 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 126 | im having issues ID'ing the motor in the truck i recently bought, Its a 66 chevy c-30 with a v8. im getting alot of help from other forums here, but my question is; im tearing down the motor, does the distributor shaft go through the intake manifold? the ones i was looking at online seem like they have a hole for the distributor at the rear. this is the first pre 73 truck ive ever had, and im still kind of lost on some of it. i dont know the motor size yet, but is definitely a small block.

Also, drain the coolant before loosening the manifold or you'll flood the crankcase with antifreeze. Drain both sides of the block before removing the cylinder heads.

| | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,098 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,098 | The distributor drives the oil pump so when you remove the distributor the oil pump drive shaft turns. You can align the oil pump shaft with a screwdriver and then drop in the distributor. Or you can set the distributor in place on the correct gear and then crank the engine over and the distributor will drop in place.
