heres my question, Im putting in a 65 292 with saginaw 4 speed and open driveline, I was told by several sources to get a cross member from a 54 so all will bolt up,, the 54 cross member is like 3 inches longer than the original,, am I missing something was I suppose to cut it up to fit,, looking for input,,

don't mean to ask a dumb question, but when you say crossmember are you talking about the whole front end? the motor mount towers bolt to front end crossmember at bottom and frame at top. the 292 motor mount is 2" foward than all the other sixes, so i doubt you will have a hole there in the frame for the 292 mount on the pass side.

They're probably talking about the crossmember under the bellhousing. The mounts are at a different angle on the bellhousing that comes with the 292, and the later model crossmember will match up without modifying the crosssmember. Don't know about front mounts- - - -you'll probably have to fabricate your own, IMHO.

use a 54 bellhousing x member a 55 chevy truck v8 bellhousings and mounts and you need to make a front motor mount oe the sides buffulo in washington makes them he is on the inliners site, i have done this conversion several times it sure beats using a 235

thanks for the info,, I am trying to change the Xmember under the bell housing,, I have front mounts,, i had gotten the cross member from tom meyers in OKlahoma but it appears he sent me the wrong one,, the inner measurement on my 53 3100 is 30.5 inches,, the xmember I got was 33 inches could be from a bigger truck,, soo Im trying to figure out what i needed to do,,,

It sounds like you may have gotten an 55.2 x-member from Tom. The TF truck frames are 34 inchs wide (if I remember correctly). The mounting surfaces of the TF X-member will be parellel with each other and the AD X-member is angled, as I am sure you know.
