the bearing retainer from my sm420 requires a spanner wrench to rmove it. i have a spanner that fits but this reverse threaded reatainer is really on there. i was thinking of welding a cheater onto the spanner but i think i would just break the pins off the spanner.

does anyone have a suggestion or tip on how to get this retainer off. the bearing behind it is shot.

I generally use a narrow chizel & catch the edge of a flat & tap it off. They usually arn't tight though.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

i tried using a punch by placing it in one of the holes the spanner pins fit into. it did not budge.

i called a local transmission shop. they are going to give it a try tomorrow.

plus i ordered my rebuild kit from novac. it should be here by friday.

i ended up using a friends air wrench with a punch. i buggered up the holes a bit. in 2065 when the transmission gets rebuild again, i hope my great grandaughter doesnt curse my ham-fisted technique.
