Hi All

I am cleaning the whole truck, removing rust etc, not sure if I can get all of the rust out, but can I clean with phosphoric acid, use eastwood rust convertor and rust encapsulator, then SPI primer, Eastwood chasis black.

Will this combination. Please advise and apprecaited so much

First degrease everything preferrably with a power washer and then use a power wire brush wherever you can to remove as much rust as you can. I would skip the phosphoric acid. It's just too messy, toxic and requires a lot of water to neutralize. Go right to the rust encapsulator and chassis black. You can skip the primer if you want. The chassis black goes on pretty thick unless you dilute it following Eastwoods instructions. You may get flash rust before coating if you try to do too much area at a time.

I would second that. I have found the rust encapsulater makes a fine base for the chasis black. I would give the encapsularer plenty of time to dry.

well, more like stay away from that combination, phosphoric acid is excellent for the right purpose, and not toxic, especially compared to the lacquer thinner, mineral spirits or acetone you'll use to thin the paint or clean it up wink

Not only is phosphoric acid not toxic but it is in just about every soda made.

Well, I consider any chemical that has the potential in high concentration such as a Phosphoric Acid wash to be a health risk. Here is the MSDS which I trust to be more accurate.

Just my added 2 cents. smile

Drew - most anything can be a "health risk" if used carelessly, always use proper care with any chemical - "toxic" has a specific meaning, many products are considered "irritants" and "hazardous" in concentration, but not "toxic" .... I much prefer things that don't produce hazardous fumes when used properly, and are easily neutralized with water like phospho
