just got my truck back from the body shop 54 3100 painted juniper green. I have stock style steel wheels. They will get painted green also. Should the back of the wheels get the same green or maybe black semi-gloss? also what color would you recommend for the steering column? the interior is cream with a new black steering wheel.I know it's personal preference just looking for ideas . thanks

Do you want it painted as original? If yes, the steering column was black.

If you want the wheels painted as original, they were black on both sides. However, you would not easily notice the color of the back of a wheel.

Hey Tim, while we're on the subject of colors, I thought the Burb’s interior was different than the pickups. I’ve made a comparison of a 1949, 3116 suburban column and a 1950, 3600 pickup. Taking into consideration the date and plant of manufacture they both appear to be quite similar in color. http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/123248501/large
When exactly did the Burb take on its own color scheme? I often get the argument about the black steering, that started with the ’54’s didn’t it????

Yes, black steering column started in 1954.

I do not know when/if the Suburban and/or other panel-body A-D trucks had different interior colors from regular cab trucks, prior to 1950.

Here is the only pre-1953 documentation I have seen. Maybe 1950 was the first year?
