Can anyone tell me what years transmission will fit in my 1966 chevy truck
it has a 250 engine
and from what I found out about my trans
the first gear is 12:09
this trans is geared to low
just had rear rebuilt it did have 4.11 gears
and I had it changed to 3.42 gears
but truck still wines at a higher speed

All three speeds will have 1:1 ratios in high gear, so putting a different three speed or even four speed in won't change the engine revs per speed. An overdrive or a five speed with overdrive fifth gear would be options.

You may be going about 20% faster than indicated if you didn't change the speedometer gears in your transmission.

The T-5 from a s-10 pickup is the popular swap lately. I just put one in my 55 & love it. The 5 th gear is o-drive & you can,t even hear the engine running. There is lot,s of info in tech. section & in these posts.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
