Hello! I'm new to the community and this is my first post. Whoooo. Lol. Anyways. I recently purchased a 1966 Chevy K10 4x4 Shortbed for $1800 with a small block V8 in it. I believe the truck was originally a 283 truck, but then that was blown up by a previous owner (bastards! ) But the truck now has a new small block V8, anywhere from a 283-400, I have yet to degrease the engine and find out. My question involves the transfer case. What transfer case did they put in these trucks, and how does the linkage hook up. Also, what are the production numbers on these trucks, and where were they made?

-Thanks - Rodney Hershkowitz

Hi Rodney and welcome to Stovebolts... I looked through the limited resources that I have in my "truck library" and couldnt find an answer for you HOWEVER... since you mentioned you recently purchased a truck (by the way I've always been a fan of the 65-66 Chevy's) there are 2 valuable references that you should have on hand... first is a "1960-1966 Chevy/GMC Truck factory assembly instruction manual" which last I checked you can get for less than $20. I got mine from Golden State Pickup Parts, Inc., a few years ago so they may be less than that now. The second is a free catalog from LMC Truck Parts... (website is "lmctruck.com") both of these sources are a "must have" in my opinion as they are loaded with diagrams and information that you'll need ... if not today or tomorrow... you'll eventually need it. Best of luck on your experiences with your cool truck as well as here on stovebolt.com. I have a 65 4x4 and would love to see a couple pics of your truck sometime.

Thanks for the Welcome. I've already got an LMC truck catalog coming to my house, along with Summit Racing and Jegs catalogs. The assembly reference interests me, but after I go balls out on work on the truck, I'll know everything from just taking it apart and inspecting things. I guess i just learn best like that. Wiring diagrams might come in handy, but the wiring harness is simple, so a bit of studying and following wires and i should hve it under control. This truck is a blast, and Im proud to own it. cool

If you still have the divorced style transfer case, it should be either a Spicer 23 or a Timken 221.
