My power steering works intermittantly in one direction sometimes and very occasionally part of both directions. I replaced the pump which did not help. I have been looking for a different gearbox and was wondering about how much one should cost? Also my ram leaks pretty good, are they resealable?

Hy wiltrek, it sounds like the directional control valve at the input end of the steering box is sticking or has some broken pieces. The ram can be rebuilt and lack of fluid in one side of the ram can cause some of the problems you seem to be having with your steering system, hope that helps.

Can the directional control valve be repaired? Are parts available?

Hy wiltrek, the directional control valve is rebuildable, but parts availability may be another story. This valve uses very tight clearances, and small movements to direct fluid flow from one side of the ram to the other, and if there are any voids in the fluid the motion will not be constant, hope that helps.

it would be great to ixne this setup in favor of a ps box im thinking the p-s box to put in would be from a 73 up?Any one ever done anything like this?Could be a tuff one...
