He wants me to get the clutch first so he can do the work and get the truck out of his shop quickly. It's a 46, 1/2 ton w/ 4 spd. I read where it should have the larger of the 2 clutch sizes since it has the 4spd. I can't find the larger clutch. Will the smaller dia clutch work as well for a retired '46?

Flywheels are drilled for only one size pressure plate. In some cases you can use a smaller disc without changing the pressure plate size. If you want to use a smaller pressure plate and disc you will need to change the flywheel.
The standard clutch size is 9-1/8"

I'd be a bit surprised if you really had the larger clutch.
The 2 I've torn into have each been the smaller 9" clutch and pressure plate. They were both standard 1/2 ton's with 4-speed tranny's.
I also went through this same line of questioning but it always seemed that the larger of the discs were generally used in the larger trucks. | | |
