The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Deluxe Window Chrome

Today I had my windsheild for my 59 1/2 ton installed by a proffesional glass man. He volunteered to also install the chrome around the windsheild. He told me it would be difficult and id be better off letting him do it since he had done it before. Well after 2hours we still did not have one piece installed completely. The lip on the chrome pcs do not want to go in all the way to lock in under the window. I bought my seals from Steele but the new chrome is from Taiwan. Holding it up to the old original chrome I cant see any difference. Has anyone had this problem or know of a solution. I considered cutting off some of the lip and leaving just enough to hold the chrome in but wanted to check here first. Extremely frustrating. I'm almost to the point that I've also considered leaving it off but he told me the chrome also helps hold in the window.

Brian, I assume you are aware these chromes must be installed into the rubber before the windshield install.
The chromes on this type of seal are purely decorative and serve no function in securing the windshield.

It's not clear at what stage you are at,whether the windshield is already in the truck or not.
If so, it's virtually impossible to fit them.

It also sounds,i'm afraid,of another case of poor aftermarket products.
I've had similar hassle here with MG and Jaguar trims.
From what I gather the A.D. guys have had similar complaints too.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately the windsheild is installed. That would explain the difficulty. I can't imagine how you would get windsheild in with the crome on it but I guess once you put the rubber seal on the glass you could install chrome then. I hate to cut out a brand new seal and start over. I already paid the guy $200.00 to install the front and back glass. It was worth it for the big back window. I dont think I could have handled that one.

At the bodyshop I worked at, when ever we had a windshield mldgs that were a pita to install, I'd cut the lip/edge enough so it would slip right in. If necessary a little dab of glue in the right place. They're just for looks. Its not worth the risk of dinging up the chrome or breaking the glass.

Brian it's not a truck windshield but it's at least a Chevy!

The chromes are installed once the rubber has been fitted to the glass then it's installed as a complete unit.
An extra pair of hands is highly recommended!
