Hi,
Apparently the 1 ton and above trucks with an SM420 and trans mounted parking brake had a pivot for the parking brake lever mounted to the shifter tower.
Did any SM465's ever have this setup?

This is for a 61 C30 getting an SM465 and I'd like to use a floor mounted parking brake lever.
I have exactly NONE of the original setup so I have to figure out the lever and rod setup. However, the parking brake on the tranny I have did use a cable. So maybe at least part of the linkage has to be a cable.
BTW: The parking brake is actually a rear drum brake, nothing like the setups found in older trucks.
Any suggestions welcome; except maybe ones about using a dash mounted lever smile
Thanks
Pete

I have an SM465 that came off of a tow truck that I bought. I intend to use it as an upgrade someday. Anyway, it has a drum on the back where the U-joint would bolt up to for the driveshaft, and I was told that was a parking brake. But I don't understand why it would be on the tranny instead of on the wheels.

I'm not sure why either unless they thought it had more drum contact area by expanding both shoes. The driveshaft of course turns whenever the wheels turn but it does seem like the long way around the barn.

Hy guys, as 64Pete said trucks larger than one ton did not have provision for parking brakes at the wheels, from the mid fifties on the parking brake was a P.S.P.B. [propeler shaft paking brake], hope that explains it.

Here's a couple pics of the parking brake on my SM465.
It's from a 1980 Chevy or GMC stepvan.

As you can see it is a drum brake minus the wheel cylinder.
Not visible is parking brake cable entering rear.
Looks like it uses 4 of 6 stud holes to mount driveshaft yoke.
Cost cutting or a better idea?

Pete

Dave,
You being the moderator;
do you think this question belongs in another forum?
Big Bolts maybe?
There should be more guys there driving trucks with the prop shaft parking brake.
Thanks
