For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 41 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 41 | I've been exploring links w/in this forum, etc., for vehicle i.d. locations on 1942 through 1946 Chev 1.5/2 ton trucks. I see references to frame numbers, engine numbers and plates affixed in various locations. I need to know if frame numbers were used on these years of trucks??????? If so, where?
If not, i.d. would always be a plate or engine number, right?
My 1st big bolt is a 1946 with a plate attached to the right side firewall cowl that is seen when right hood is lifted. Oddly, it is only attached with two small clutch-head screws leaving the plate's other two mounting holes empty. Is this normal?
And, most importantly, is this plate of mine the ONLY i.d. point on my truck?
I need to deal with a title soon and want to be legal here in Washington state.
Tips appreciated, thanks, Dennis | | | | | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 25 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 25 | on my 1946 gmc the id number on my pink slip [calif] matched number next to distributor . i guess when you change motors it could be gone, no match. If you will post your email I will send you some detailed photo''s of the data tag. Harold

My email is: [email protected]I have my data plate. Yesterday, quite by accident, we found another 1.5 ton. Rough shape, but got the whole thing for $20. Neighbor hauled it to his coulee. I checked the data plate numbers on line and am a little confused. Number is 6YSO68292 which came back as 1941, 1.5 ton. This truck, like my first one, has the heavy rivited on re-inforcement plate alont much of the frame, yet it decodes to just a 1.5 ton not a 2 ton. The interesting thing is this latest truck has a Cadillac flat-heaad V8. Hasn't run for a long time. But it's more parts. (Not COE or FFC models?) On Chevrolet it was primarily on the passenger side under the hood, on the cowl just able the fender. See ID info from the 1939-1947 GMC Master Parts Catalog: http://i391.photobucket.com/albums/oo352/46Canopy/GMCDataPlates.jpgDale | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | The interesting thing is this latest truck has a Cadillac flat-heaad V8.
