For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 121 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 121 | My 65 C10 is difficult to shift through neutral from first to second and was wondering if its lack of lubrication in the column? Truck sat for 22 years before I got it.

If you can get someone to shift the linkage as you're applying the penetrating oil it would have a better chance of working its way in, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 1,403 | Common problem on all of the column shift. Could be lack of lubrication or worn out parts. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 502 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 502 | it is one/all of the above stated conditions lack of lubrication, worn components, or improper adjustment. On my 49 you have to adjust the handle alignment or else it can bind up. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 121 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 121 | Hy hb32, try spraying some penetrating oil in at the bottom of the column [in the engine compartment] and up the column a bit where the shift levers come out. Did as suggested 3B and a little better but still a struggle getting through neutral. Any other thoughts?

I would start by adjusting everything to make sure everything is lined up as it should be, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 45 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 45 | | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 121 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 121 | Hy hb32, does the shift linkage not want to "drop" down into the 2nd 3rd shift part of the pattern, do you have to push it out of 1st reverse part of the pattern, or do you have to fish around to find the 2nd 3rd gate. Going to disconnect the transmission rods and see what happens.
