Just bought a newer (mid 60's)235 to replace my old ('51) 216. Haven't taken the 216 out yet because I'm not sure if it's gonna work. I've been told it will bolt right in but the bell housing is different. The 216 has the 6V starter go through the engine housing (above oilpan) where the 235 has the 12V starter below the oilpan. Any thoughts on possible problems?

Thought I'd ask before I get home from work and actually take the 216 out.

Are you sure you have a 235? If it is mid 60's it's probably
a 230 or 250 or 292 which use the v8 pattern bell housing.

What g-rider said... a 235 or 216 will have the distributor in the middle, a 230/250/293 would have the distributor towards the front of the motor.

If you do have a 235, the bellhousings and flywheels will interchange allowing you to run the 6 volt starter and stock clutch.

If you found a 230, 250, 0r 292, you may still be able to use this engine, but you might have to swap out the bellhousing crossmember with that of a 54 or 55 1st series truck. You will also have to fabricate a new front mount, or use side mounts. Don't take my word as gospel, as I have never done this swap.
