Fresh professionally rebuilt stock 1959 235 with stock intake that was trued up. This 1/2 ton will be a weekender only for fun. What carb should I use for the trouble free realiability. Manual Choke of course. Thanks for your thoughts. It had an rough Rochester on it when I got it. Ralph

Ralph:
I assume this if for a large flange carb. with the 2 15/16 bolt hole spacing.

The Rochester Model B is simple to rebuild with kits readily available from NAPA. That said, they are notorious for warpage at the air horn. I have a jig I use to true them up...but it has to be done each time you rebuild.

Many like the Carter YF. More reliable, no warpage, but uses an accelerator pump that is affected by ethanol based fuels. The only GOOD kit is available from Jon Hardgrove at the Carburetor Shop in MO. Don't use NAPA...wrong accelerator pump.

Me personally, I like either Carter W-1's or WA-1's using the small flange base. Work best in multiples. More trouble to set up, but mileage and performance is superior! I have used them on 216 intakes with adaptor rings or on 235 intakes with the studs re-welded to the small flange configuration (2 11/16").

Do you machine the air horn or do you carefully press it back to shape? Any other problem areas to look for when rebuilding the rochester? thanks
