After some drive time today I nearly suffocated because of the fumes in the cab (I just filled the tank).

I want to find a cheap tank to drop under the bed - anyone know what year/model truck tank fits? What is a reasonable price?

I used to have a chevy with twin tanks - would those work if I put them inbourd of the frame rails?

Are you sure your tank is leaking, or is it just the hose connectors on the fill or is it leaking around the gauge. Either one is an easy fix.

Cheap may not be the answer if it comes from a junk yard. I thought that would be the solution last year for my old dodge.
Mopar doesn't sell that tank so off to the junk yard I went.
Two tanks later I knew I needed to find a new one which I located at my FLAPS.
As it turns out the old tanks were not clean enough inside, even after trying to clean them, and miles later the fuel filter plugged up and the dodge shut down, quit running.

After all the time and labor spent I wished I had put a new tank in the first time.
If it's old it better be really clean inside.

I put a under frame tank in on my 52 ,I got it from a company called Tanks inc. comes with the straps .I had to build some brackits and do some fab work but when don't we have to.My filler comes out of the bed maybe 10 inches in front of the tailgate I also used there stainless trim around the filler neck the whole thing is flush with the bed wood looks good. The model I got is for costom trucks .

I think the cheapest and best fix is buying a new Spectra Premium tank. They are built in Canada and fit exactly like original. Rock Auto has them for $206. There is one on eBay right now for $129. Do a search for GMC fuel tank. I have bought about a dozen fuel tanks from the guy.

Just installed one of them for a friend last fall Ken, and he and I are very happey with the tank, just like the original but without the rust. And I gotta say again, if you are experienceing fumes in the cab, you have one or more of five things wrong, outside filler gasket is not sealing, filler neck connector hose is not sealing, fuel gauge/siphon gasket is not sealing, your fuel line fittings are not sealing or you have a tank that has a hole in it. If all of this is installed and maintained properly then you will have NO fuel smell in the cab.

First try tightening the hose clamps and/or replacing the rubber tubing for the filler neck and vent tube.

My cab absolutely reeked after every fill up. I put in new 1/2" vent tubing, tightened all the clamps and it cleared right up, for about $1.50.

You also may be able to see fuel dribbling down the side of the fill neck behind the seat, if the neck is the problem. I had a puddle on the floor and running board which clued me in on where to look.
