Hi Guys
I need some help please, I am restoring a 1955, 235ci six cyl stovebolt and need to fit a new distributor.
Can anyone give me the correct part NO. or is there a better modern replacement, the truck is running on 12 volts which may make things easier.

Find a "HEI" (High Energy Ignition) distributor for a late 70's/early 80's Chevy 250 or 292 6-cylinder engine. With a slight modification to the mounting flange, it will drop into a 216 or 235 engine and provide very much improved ignition performance. There are also aftermarket electronic ignition conversion systems to retain the old-style appearance of the original distributor, but the GM HEI seems to be more reliable and less expensive. Check the "tech tips" section for some very informative articles on HEI conversion.

Sounds like you're doing a correct resto on your '55 and maybe want to retain the original equipment? The 12V distributor in '55 was part no. 1112403 (number stamped on the plate rivited to the body).

Another option would be to use Langdon's mini-HEI which is a modified S-10 dizzy. I have one with the external coil and I have yet to have someone say to me "oh, I see you have an HEI..."
it looks almost exactly like original.

Thanks for the info, yes I am trying to keep it looking original I am looking at an NOS dizzy on ebay at the mo and maybe fitting it with a pertronix electronic ignition and coil to help it run sweet.
