A local junkyard has whats left of a panel truck (47 to 53) that still has the front sway bar on it,I looked it over and the bushings and links that attach the bar to the axle are shot so are these parts available anywhere or would it be best to buy a new one.

you can get a complete bushing set from JimCarter. I think the entire set runs about $50.
I tried making some of the urethane bushing from the local parts house work but they just don't cut the mustard.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Hi Jeff,
There is a classic truck parts supplier that I get a lot of my parts from called Jim Carter. They have a lot different parts you can buy, new and used. Their prices are usually pretty good too. Maybe they can help you find what you're looking for.
Here's a link to Jim Carter Truck Parts Jim Carter

I looked a little on Chevs of the 40s website and did not find much for the original swaybar.

As stated above, Jim Carter sells the replacement bushings for 47-55 panel body "sway bars" (stabilizer bars).

Two different styles of fittings/bushings were used between 47-55.

I think I will get a new one as the links that attach the bar to the axle are broken and it does not look like replacements are reproduced.
