Has anyone tried a LED headlamp or the ones that clip on your hat brim? Just wondering if they are useful or a gimmick

I can't say because I can't see what you're talking about.
I hit on the link and it's under maintenance. I can say this about LED lights, most of them are great.
Last year I picked up a small 6 in long Strion, rechargeable,flashlight made by Streamlight. It is amazing,just awesome !! The amount of light it puts out and the distance, plus the amount of use time because of the small drain LEDs put on the battery makes it my favorite flashlight. And I thought I had a great flashlight before which was another by Streamlight but it has a halogen bulb.
I have been watching the LED light progression and they have come a long way and we are going to see more of them, but it does not mean all LEDs are great.
AS with anything today, their are manufacturers who push a product using the hype created in a name, like LED, but don't put something out there worth a squat.
I was able to try out the flashlights I got before I bought them, and after seeing how they performed, I wanted one.

That's the problem with a lot of stuff today, it's in some package you can't open, you can't see how it works, just believe the claims on the product....like HD, Industrial Grade, Commercial Quality, New and Improved, etc.
If it was me I would want to try it out first, or know I can return it, bu then I really get tired of returning stuff that doesn't work. It's time consuming.

A friend of mine used a pair a few weeks ago. It clips under the brim of a baseball cap. Worked real nicely. I find a baseball cap's brim gets in the way in tight places. An LED "worklight(s)" that attaches to the ear or to safety glasses is also very convenient.

I use one to BB-Q works better than forgetting my flashlight .We also use them for night fishing. Work well

I have several of them. They sure beat the old 6 volt lantern batteries strapped to my belt for coon hunting. I do walk around inspections on my over the road trucks at night as well as look for parts in our dimly lit parts room and check for parts on salvaged trucks. I just don't hardly use a flash light any more. I even use it for night closeup photos. Just a flash doesn't work that well. Pointing the headlight at the part I want to film makes a picture like daylight.

I got some at Harbor Freight and gave them out at Christmas,
a lot cheaper than Lowes,and they work great.Item # 45807

Used 'em lots of times, especially at work when we had to slosh around in ankle-deep water in cooling towers, where we couldn't take a 110v cord for a trouble light.
They're also great for crawling around under a truck when you need both hands free.
I highly recommend them, but make sure you buy a good-quality one.
The made-in-china el cheapoes aren't too bright.

I have a couple of the kind with headbands. I love them.

Ken 1960 mentioned fishing with them. They are great for tying on hooks if you wear bifocals. You can tilt the beam into your line of sight.
