What is the name of the driveshaft part that slips into the Saginaw over it's output shaft splines?

The item which mates with a u-joint is called a yoke. The Saginaw does not have a yoke on it for a u-joint connection; it has a splined shaft shrouded by the transmission housing. Maybe more than 1 word is used to precisely define the name of the part I need with yoke being one of the words?
The part I'm talking about will fit between the long section of the driveshaft and the other end will slip over the splined shaft of the Saginaw and into the tranny housing. Having never seen underneath an automobile with a Saginaw tranny I am GUESSING that the part I need will replace the short front end of my driveshaft.

You are probably going to need a new drive shaft to do this. Just tell them at the drive shaft shop what trans you are using, they will put the correct yoke on it. If you only need a yoke, try Speedway/Summit/Jegs. They have them also.

Patrick's sells a kit to keep your original enclosed rear differential and driveline (aka 'torque tube'). It requires the rear yoke from a 3 speed, which you then bolt to your saginaw. This yoke then bolts to the torque tube. If you do not have this set up you will have to switch to an open driveline, which means replacing the rear differential and drive shaft.

If you go the salvage yard route, look for a muncie/saginaw 3 or 4 speed manual trans, I think one from a turbo 350/400 auto might work also.

Slip yoke sounds applicable. I'm wanting to buy one to install before measuring the distance to the differential yoke so I'll have the info when I take the driveshaft to be shortened. I wanted to know what to ask for at the parts counter. Thanks for your reply.
