For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 38 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 38 | I am going to repaint some panels on my 42 truck and have the choice of acylic, air dry enamel or two pack enamel. I am a qualified tradesman in the construction industry, but have little experience with painting panels and would like to know the pros and cons of these options?

If your color choice is a metallic you might want to use a base/ clear because it's easier to get good results, but cost is probably higher. If your choice is a solid color I would suggest single stage acrylic enamel. Straight enamel I would only use on farm machinery and then I don't like it because of it's fast fade out. There really isn't much downside to B/C except the price and you have to paint it twice. Once with color and then the clear. Single stage enamel, paint once and your done, but unless your a great painter metallics are hard to deal with and get a great end result. Their cost is probably less. As with all paints you don't want to breath them, but modern urethanes are real toxic making that a downside. I hope this helps. Dan

No better smell than that of fresh paint. I've been building and painting cars/trucks for 47 years. It cost me more money, however it sprayed on real nice and it rubbed out even better. That was a year ago and it still looks great today. I would used the urathane stuff again if a had a good bolt to apply it to. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 38 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 38 | Thanks for all your replys, i have not herd of these paints. The acylic urathane emanel sounds like the one to use.
What should i ask when i go to the paint supplier? I want to rub back, prime and go with a similar color to the original.
Juniper green? and black guards. The black is no trouble but how do i ask for the juniper green? This is a farm truck that i want to look tidy and presentable, not for 'car shows' etc.
Thanks Wombat

You guys have different names for things down there. Are you talking to a paint supplier that deals with auto paints ? You made the comment, What should I ask for. If you were dealing with an auto paint supplier he should be able to explain the different kinds of paints and how they are to paint with. I say that because that's what we have here. What do you have down there, because it's rather silly of me to answer your questions based on what we deal with up here. Finding that color might be hard unless you have someone who can custom mix paint and go for a color match and get something that's close. Let me know what you have down there and I'll try to answer your questions. Dan
