Have you considered using a crank out of a 270, that would give you a longer stroke.

You are talking about an overbore of at least 0.15625, and thats just to standard bore pistons [248]. Most machine shops can sonically check a block for cylinder wall thickness these days. The two engines 228 and 248 both use the same height block 11 1/4", hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 | The 228 was 3 9/16 bore while the 248 was 3 23/32 bore. The rods and crank are the same. I have seen 228's bored to 248 std. I would be afraid to go oversize. A good machine shop can sonic test the cylinder walls to see how much you can bore. There are lots of 248's around. I think they are 60 over.
They are also readily available from venolia and egge. I think about 300-400 per set of six.

Thats why I bought my used set on ebay when I saw them even though I didn't need them. I paid about $100 for the set, thinking I would use them soon, but the darn 228 justs keeps on running.
