I have an extremely nice '57 GMC hood. I want an extremely nice '55 Chevy hood. I'd far prefer to swap to someone who needs the GMC piece, but I have to admit to wondering if I could just simply cut out the GMC "nostril" and weld in a "nose" patch from my bad '55 Chevy hood. I like the two '57 style wind splits (?) so I'd just leave them alone on the GMC hood if I go this route.
I saw some pics recently of someone running a '57 GMC hood on a '55 or '56 Chevy and it looked like the front edge "lip" of the hood was a good fit, but I have no way to know if they modified it. I'd certainly be a lot less tempted to try it if I'd need to replace the "lip" as well.
Anyone have any experience with this type of mix-n-match?

However, the GMC hoods are rare and are worth more money than a Chev hood. Depending on your ability, I would question such a transplant. You would have to use filler and between the flexing of the hood while you are driving and slamming it, you could create something ugly. Chev hoods are around. | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | other than that hole the 55-57 hoods are all identical, Chev or GMC - but about how well it'd work out being "extremely nice" long term ... what Ken said .... 57 Chev hoods are around if that's what you'd like

taskforce430, I always thought that a GMC hood on a Chevy with a couple of Hella driving lights in the hole and a grill between would be kinda cool. Take this as my $.02, though!

Not going to Branson mo. anytime soon are you? | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 725 | Bill, I stand corrected. ALL 55/2-57 TF hoods do FIT in the same hole, GMC & Chevy. They are physically different though. I wish I had the kind of space to store parts that you and many others here have.
Best wishes,
